10 Pakistani Must Watch Movies/TV Series...
Television or Movies as we
know them exist for some basic reasons! Entertainment topping the list...
Followed by the likes of delivering a social message etc...
Well, as Indians we take pride in the fact that we are the worlds
2nd largest Entertainment industry.
However, that does not always account for good and sensible
content!
Apparently, when it comes to content and sensible content, our
neighbors are doing quite a good job at it...
The reasons are many:
1. They have
a set number of episodes. They do not start something without an end in mind
2. No over
the top characters. The characters are just like us! living daily lives... They
do not sleep in full make up and heavy sarees.
3. No
Blaring Sound... No weird background scores... No Dhoom tananananananana....
Emotions play the key role! Hence, the actors...
4. Social Message...
Many or most of what they make have a reason to cater to. A sensible social
message!
5. No
unnecessary sponsor integration... That does not need any explanation.
6. No 1 hour
specials... They do not have characters from one series dancing for a wedding
on some other series. They very well know how to mind their businesses.
The reasons are many... But I don't want to get into the details.
Some days back, veteran actor Paresh Rawal said that "He would love to work in Pakistani Shows and Movies"...
Of course, he had his share of hatred for the comment. He also
went on to say that Cricket and art act an a bridge between the two countries!
God forbid if any Khan would have said that!
Anyways... Moving on!
So here is a list of 10 Pakistani Movies/Television Series to
prove the points I am trying to make:
1. Bol

Probably Atif Aslam’s
silver screen debut if I am not wrong. Also had Mahira Khan (Remember Raees?)
A family consisting of a
Father, a Mom and their 4 daughters… Apart from the daughters, a kid of the third
gender (That the father does not approve of). The father is a pious rigid
fundamentalist. The plot is beautifully woven around how the girls slowly break
the shackles their father has for them.
I will not give away much
of it… Its gripping! Father killing the son (third gender)… Rape of the son… A
kotha… It has all elements all woven in to give out a very powerful social
message.
If you liked PINK… YOU MUST
WATCH THIS!
Well Mahira Khan Once again…
But this time with Adeel Hussain and Sheheryar Munawar.
The story is about 3
friends whose lives are just for music. Their journey from College to he bitter
reality of live. Love, Sacrifice, Betrayal, Family Feuds, Orthodox parents….
A must see for youngsters.
The emotions these characters bring out are just brilliant!
If for nothing, Watch it
for Sonya Jehaan (Jimmy Shergill’s wife from My Name Is Khan)
Girls… You may croon! It
has Fawad Khan… From his early years.
Joined by Shaan Shahid,
Iman ali and Hameed Sheikh
Well, the movie around the
two different aspects of the western world.. And two different aspects of the
Islam that media keeps showing!
How the two brothers get
entangled in all the aspects. The director brilliantly and with complete maturity
handles a very delicate subject.
Don’t miss the stellar
performances by Naseeruddin Shah and Rasheed Naz (Yes, the fugitive Maulana
from Akshay Kumar’s Baby)
Well… This one is type of
the odd one out in this list. For a change, this is an out and out mindless
comedy.
More on the lines of MASTI
(Not Grand or Great Grand.. Puhleeezzz)
How a bachelor guy screws
up the married life of 3 of his friends…
Doesn’t end there… The 3
also get back at him…
Its fun to watch!
You can call this a road
trip comedy…
When Shehzad Sheikhs (Zaheem)
girlfriend dumps him to get married to someone else, he takes on the task of
going all the way from Karachi to Lahore to mess up the wedding!
Time being scarce and no
flights, he decides on a road trip.
He has to borrow a car (A
Jeep) from his neighbor’s daughter. She insists she will have to join with her
younger brother if they have to take the jeep.
What follows is a fun ride… Watch out for Yasir's Hakla Act!
Now turning to the television series…
I am not going to write much about them as they are not 150 minute
movies, but a series of about 20+ episodes each… You have to watch it to know
more… But I guarantee it will be worth the time…
A story of friendship and
relations tripping over ego and misunderstandings!
The story of Khirad (Mahira
Khan) and Ashar (Fawad Khan)captivated hearts beyond borders… You must watch it
too!
A clash of two stratas of
the society and a love story bearing the brunt. Zaroon (Fawad Khan) and Kashaf
(Sanam Saeed) have excelled in their art!
This is an old one from PTV's early days in 1982. But
worth your time…
Another classic from 1987! Go watch
it for some mind blowing direction and superb acting.
Having said that... Lets not forget that we had some classics too...
Nukkad, Fauji, Hum log, Circus, Tamas, Byomkesh Bakshi.. And many more...
Just that now we have crap been produced under the pretext of "CONTENT"...
Don't believe me? Watch PEHREDAR PIYA KI..
That's all for now
Adios!
