MUBARAKAN is a Comedy of Errors! With its share of Errors…

I know… I completely Understand! Two Arjun Kapoors?? Really…

It will a harrowing time for those who had to bear Aurangzeb (Hope you remember that).

However, before you pass a judgement, hear me out! (Or read me out!)

Mubarakan has its moments! But they all belong to others, not Arjun Kapoor.

Given that this is a Anees Bazmi movie, who gave us No Entry, Welcome, Ready, Singh is King, Pyar to Hona Hi Tha etc, the hopes are pretty high!

For starters, Anees does not disappoint! He delivers what he does best. A 150 min light comedy with confusion at multiple layers, multiple characters and multiple times.

His trademark style of goofy slap-stick comedy is what you can expect of this movie.

The plot is twisted, just to make it funny.

Sanjay Kapoor (Yes, Anil Kapoor’s “yet a baby” brother) is also a part of the movie.

But don’t worry, he dies in the first few seconds of the movie, only for a cameo towards the end.

Yes, he returns, but not in the usual Bollywood style, like saved by adivasis… 

You will have to watch the movie to know how and why he comes back.

He dies and leaves behind his twin sons, Karan and Charan… BOTH ARJUN KAPOOR!

Because charity begins at home you see.

The kids are left with the bachelor chacha Kartar (Super Brilliant Anil Kapoor), who is not able to handle the 2 kids and hence, packs them off to other relatives.

They are then raised by them.

Karan by his Bua (The Brilliant Ratna Pathak Shah) and Charan by the the chacha (The Super brilliant Pavan Malhotra).

The plot then revolves around how both Arjuns have girlfriends but are afraid to tell their parents, who have fixed their arranged marriages without their consent.

Because, Sanskaar you see! To hell with consent…

The plot opens up when these two Arjuns ask their chacha Anil Kapoor for help.

What follows is a hilarious laugh riot!

How Anil Kapoor screws up everything in his quest to help others is all what the movie is all about.

The performances are good given the number of people in the cast.

The female leads Ileana, Athiya and Neha are well placed. Neha Sharma is Charan’s Girlfriend, but Charan does not want to marry her.. Long story! You must watch the movie as this angle add to a lot of laughter.

Ileana has a couple of dialogues where she proves her comic timing as well. Athiya is a prop well used.

Rahul Dev and Karan Kundra (Yes, the TV guy) have very small roles, but they have done good.

The ever so ravishing Ratna Pathak Shah is a delight to watch. If you are watching this one after Lipstick under my burqa, you are going to love her even more.

One of my all time favourites, Pawan Malhotra (AKA Hari from Nukkad) does a splendid job! He is the one who challenges his own sister Ratna Pathak shah that he will get Charan married on the 25^th of Dec.

Why? Well am not giving that away… That’s the backbone of the storyline. Go watch it…

The Showstopper is (had to be), Sadda Anil!

What a splendid job!

The first half is a breezy laugh riot, thanks to Anil and his innocent attempts to save his bhatijas from the arranged marriages.

He has a punch every time he delivers a dialogue.

For the second half, right when we think why this comedy is now moving towards a sad family drama, Anil Kapoor wears his chaddi over his pants, gets a cape and saves the show with a great act.

The music is not that great!

Honestly, I think this fad of remixing old hits and screwing up their credibility is short lived.

Hawa Hawa might be a game changer at pubs and discs, but for the lovers of the original, its pure murder. Without taking away any credit from the flamboyant Mika Singh.

Like all movies, this one too has its own errors. There are goof ups and points where you just don’t get why the joke is funny.

But then it’s better than an entire 150 minutes of boredom (Like Jagga Jasoos and Munna Michael).

All in all, the movie is a good one family entertainer. We rate it 4 / 5
