Mom proves revenge is best served cold...

Mom released on the 7th of July 2017, Thursday.

The movie is based on the current day situation in Delhi (Read Rape Capital of India).

The story is woven around a family of four...

Devaki (Sridevi), Anand (Adnan Siddiqui), Arya (Sajal Ali) and a young cute girl playing Sridevi's daughter.

I say Sridevi's daughter, as Anand and Devaki are both previously married. Their respective spouses supposedly dead. Arya is Anand's daughter and the younger one is Devaki's.

As any Indian movie would have it, there is a tiff between the stepmom and the older daughter.

Arya does not approve of Devaki as her MOM... Keep calling her Ma'am, as Devaki also works as a teacher at her school.

A boy named Mohit from Arya's class has the hots for her! Which again Arya does not approve of.

At a Valentines day party in some farmhouse, the guy makes inappropriate advances towards Arya, only to be insulted before a crowd.

Bollywood takes its due course and the guy along with his elder cousin, a drug peddler (Abhimanyu Singh) and a Security Guard (Pitobash Tripathy) abduct Arya...

What follows is a 20 min long masterpiece!

The director beautifully portrays the gruesome act... without showing anything.. No screams... No flashy lights... No crying... No gory details... Just a moving car, combined with what you can call soul shattering background score.

It ends with the 4 rapists dumping Arya in a sewer!

All this while Devaki (Sridevi) hopelessly tries to track her daughter. The police obviously and as usual not of any help.

Arya testifies against the 4 culprits... CBI officer Matthew Francis (Akshay Khanna) cathces hold of them.

The fast-track court acquits all 4 in 37 days! (Watch the movie to know the reason)

And then there is torment!

The helplessness of a Father, a mother a family and an entire system makes way deep into your heart... Piercing it like an arrow.

But there was someone at the police station that could feel Devaki's pain. Who could apparently help her.

That is detective Dayashankar Kapoor... You can call him "DK" as he prefers, brilliantly played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Given up on the system and the people, Devaki decides to take matters in her own hands, with the help of DK!

What unfolds is a mind boggling web that a mother lays to trap and destroy the culprits who made her daughter a mess!

That sure is a must watch!

Coming to the performances...

Now, two of the main roles in the movie are played by Pakistani Actors. (No Furore this time... Probably they transferred 10cr to some defense academy)

Adnan Siddiqui who plays Anand is a veteran Pakistani actor and has done a wonderful job. As a helpless father who can only clench his teeth and cry in pain with his daughter, his is a splendid act.

His daughter Arya (the victim) is played by Sajal Ali... Another Pakistani model and actor. She carries her role with finesse and proves that she was the right choice or the role.

Her scenes where she breaks down and looses it post the acquittal of the culprits are something to lookout for.

Akshay Khanna a Matthew Francis, the CBI officer is convincing. Unfortunatey his role is not that meaty as you would expect. Apart from some good one liners, nothing to his credit. He is a splendid actor and could have been better utilised.

Others like Abhimanyu Singh (Jagan), Pitobash Tripathy (Baburam) have small but meaning roles.

Adding another feather to his hat is the brilliant Nawazuddin Siddiqui, as detective Dayashankar Kapoor or DK.

His is an act par excellence... He is Devaki's aide in completing and accomplishing what the court could not. His look itself proves that he has done his homework for the role.

Every frame that has DK is a delight to watch. The Art Gallery scene with DK and Devaki will leave you in splits.

And now the showstopper!

Many would argue that her comback was "English Vinglish" in 2012.

However, all her fans and trolls would unanimously agree that this is her actual comeback.

We actually cannot call it a comeback! It just doesn't feel like she went anywhere. Even if she did, she has come back stronger!

It's Sridevi...

Some scenes where she proves her mettle are like the ones in the hospital... Especially when the doctor informs her that her daughter has been raped!

Another one is when she meets the character of Charles (who is paralysed due to poisoning... Watch the movie to know how) at the hospital.

Impeccable dialogue delivery in the crucial scenes.

All in all, a highly recommended movie...

We rate it a 4.5 /5...

Must watch!
